As an author, entrepreneur, and custodial parent, Dawnette Lounds-Culp has mastered the child support process by spending six years extensively researching the child support enforcement program. Fed up with the broken promises of the father of her now twelve-year-old, she sought support for her son. Working closely with the prosecutor and actively involved in each phase, "The Face of Child Support" is a compilation of what she learned while navigating the system.
The title, “The Face of Child Support,” represents not only the children involved in the child support process, but also the custodial and noncustodial parents and other adults who are intertwined in the child support system. Lounds-Culp says, “Child Support is no longer a taboo issue, but a subject that needs to be talked about daily to dispel and address the negative image of the state of the family unit in the United States.” “Many celebrities and prominent figures are sending an ominous message on what a family unit is made of. In order to make positive changes in the extinction of the traditional family, mother, father and children residing in the same household, we have to resonate positive images and messages via the media outlets.”
Passionate about the state of family in the United States and the astronomical number of cases involving child support, Lounds-Culp is instrumental in working in strengthening families when one parent is not living at home. By explaining the process or encouraging reconciliation of the relationship, Lounds-Culp has been successful in repairing and restoring hope in many families’ lives. That’s where the idea originated to offer workshops nationally on strengthening families, a tele-coaching service to provide weekly interaction and conversation about child support issues, and a plethora of other services and publications to empower, inspire, encourage, and educate all parties involved in the domestic relation issues such as child support, divorce, child custody and domestic violence.
Recently divorced and the mother of another son, Lounds-Culp says, “I have had the experiences in various areas of domestic relations such as child support, divorce, child custody, shared parenting, and domestic violence, and shares her experiences with her audience. In writing "The Face of Child Support" coupled with her recent experiences, Lounds-Culp is inspired and encouraged to write other books to assist families and individuals through their respective experiences related to Lounds-Culp. Her proactive approach along with her passion to strengthen families, is the motivating factor for Lounds-Culp successes in assisting families to gain a sense of unity, even when one parent is not living at home.
